What happened to Islam? What went so wrong? Might it just be suffering its teenage (by which I mean centuries) angst? Judaism had some pretty spectacular growing pains circa 1000 BCE, no? The Ephraimites and Samaritans might be able to tell you about it. If there were any left. Christianity lashed out rather spectacularly about the same time in its development according to the record. Today's crusades actually pale in comparison. The technology is certainly more awfully shocking, but the percentages (murders/population, colonialist theft/indigenous capital et cetera) are not parallel (yet, anyway). And the Inquisition(s) also fit around those teenage (in centuries) years. Abrahamic growing pains are evidently incredibly painful. For the outside cohorts especially.

Moslems were famously tolerant. 'Unfair', yes, genocidal, not so much. They were open-minded enough to build on the technology of ancient Egypt. This put them ahead in the knowledge game for hundreds of years. The numbers on your keyboard are Arabic, no matter where on this earth you live. It might be more useful to understand what has happened/is happening than to rail on about how 'Moslems are in the Dark Ages'. I'll mention austerity again. If we want this planet to support our growing population we could all live a little easier. But we don't have to willfully choose nescience. The cat's out of the bag, as it were (apologies M). How to progress at a sustainable rate? And still get there in time?
