Penultimate, by my count. Snuck one by you, eh? Slipped it into edu. Where a few more will likely go as I proceed down this professorial path. That'll learn ya.
All this talk of neuro-linguistics really belongs there, doesn't it? And cognitive psychology, that's pedagogy too, isn't it? Sure it is but let me declare a second to last time in this here category: it is every bit as germaine to discussions of god. Humans are spiritual beings. How we think has everything to do with that. And if some Faiths truncate the capacity for thought, this bears mentioning too. Enjoying freebooks ATM. Confirmation bias anyone?
How many angels can dance on the head of a pin? Premillenialism or postmillenialism? Matthew, Mark, Luke or John? Who, if I may be so blunt, gives a f***? Honestly, here're a few questions that might actually bear on reality. How many were murdered in the first Crusade? How many Jews did the Germans murder? How many Palestinians have the Israelis murdered so far? How many Iraqis have the Americans murdered?
I accept that Revelation may have been prophetic. 1984 was prophetic. So? How does this indicate divine intervention? A handful of middle-class middle-eastern highjackers were true believers. Sorry to repeat myself, any regular readers, or here's a revelation newcomers: I was in NYC on September 11, 2001. I worked at one of the hospitals where they tried to identify the fragments. And I can understand some of bin Laden's grievances. To what avail? He's still nuts. But it's okay to be crazy. Probably a corrollary of sentience. The big problem is if you really believe things without proof. I mean, REALLY believe. How many grapes will the martyrs receive from Allah? How many Armenians did the Turks murder? Here's a fine case in point. Oy, ya wanna talk holocaust denial?
Tell the truth. I know many of us need God. I love god myself. But I believe very little. Does this lessen my ethics, my love of and for life, my care for my community? I hope not. What I am certain it does diminish is the likelihood of my commiting or condoning genocide. No book overrides what you know is right. Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. I dig. 999,999 other passages not so much. Do not do to another what you find hateful yourself. When you won't, don't or can't follow that admit it. To yourself first and foremost. And don't blame God for it.
